About edyfi

edyfi is a data and analytics company with a growing product side. We work with companies across energy, real estate, and infrastructure to help them build the data foundations, reporting tools, and decision-support systems they need to operate more effectively.

In addition to our client work, we are developing the edyfi platform, a real estate software platform that models buildings, assets, and
energy performance in a unified data environment. The BI Analyst hired into this role will contribute to both sides of the business:
client-facing analytics engagements and the ongoing development of the edyfi platform itself.

We are a small, focused team. The work is substantive, the clients are real, and the contribution of each team member is directly visible.

The Role

We are looking for an IoT Solutions Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of edyfi’s hardware product and its deployment into commercial properties. Reporting to the CEO, you will own the full loop: selecting the off-the-shelf sensors and gateways that make up the modular kit, defining how they integrate with existing Building Management Systems, getting them installed and commissioned in real buildings, and feeding what you learn back into the next iteration of the product.

You will also build edyfi’s installer and integrator network from scratch across Germany. We do not have a roster of local electricians or technical partners today, so you will be the person who identifies them, qualifies them, and turns them into a reliable extension of the team. The CEO will agree commercial terms with vendors; you will own the technical relationship.

This is neither a purely office-based role nor a purely field-based one — it is the bridge between the two. One day you may be in the office with the CEO and CIO designing the kit, the next on-site, and the day after on a call with a sensor supplier or installer.

Because you are the first deployment hire, you will shape how this function works, from supplier relationships and commissioning standards to BMS integration patterns and the installer network itself. As we grow through 2027 and 2028, this becomes the foundation of a team you will help build and, in time, lead. This is a role that rewards initiative and a willingness to move comfortably between the technical and the practical.

Key Responsibilities
  • Select, evaluate, and qualify off-the-shelf sensors and gateways across our four sensor domains: energy and electricity metering, HVAC, refrigeration, and footfall or people counting
  • Define and maintain the modular hardware kit, including what makes up a standard edyfi deployment, the available variants, and how they fit together
  • Manage supplier relationships, covering sourcing, pricing, lead times, technical fit, and contingency planning
  • Own connectivity decisions across LoRaWAN, cellular, Modbus, and BACnet, together with the gateway configurations that bridge them to our data platform
  • Iterate the kit as we learn from each deployment, adjusting for what works, what fails, and what needs to change for the next version
  • Build edyfi’s installer and integrator network from scratch, beginning in Germany and extending into Poland and France as we expand
  • Identify, qualify, and onboard local electricians, BMS integrators, and technical partners, and maintain the standards they work to
  • Train installers on the edyfi kit and commissioning process so that deployments are repeatable without your presence on every site
  • Plan and execute sensor rollouts across the Greenman portfolio, targeting 85 assets by the end of 2026, alongside potential pilots
  • Run site surveys, coordinate local installers and electricians, and oversee on-site commissioning
  • Integrate with existing Building Management Systems, ensuring our additive approach works reliably alongside what is already in place
  • Validate that installed sensors produce clean, usable data and hand off to the BI Analyst and CIO for analysis
  • Build the installation playbook, commissioning checklists, and integration patterns that allow deployments to be repeated efficiently
  • Maintain documentation that an external installer can follow without you on-site
  • Contribute to ISO 27001 and ISO 50001 readiness, targeted for 2027 and 2028
  • Travel one to two days per week during active rollouts, primarily within Germany
Tools and Technologies

The following form the core of the technical environment for this role. Candidates are not expected to have deep experience with every item listed, and structured learning support will be provided where needed.

  • Building and automation protocols, including Modbus and BACnet
  • At least one wireless protocol, such as LoRaWAN, Zigbee, or cellular IoT (M-Bus is an advantage)
  • Sensor and gateway hardware across the energy, HVAC, refrigeration, and footfall domains
  • Building Management System integration on commercial platforms
  • Gateway configuration and connectivity management
  • Technical documentation for playbooks and commissioning checklists
Skills and Experience

We are looking for the following qualities and capabilities. Some may be demonstrated through direct work experience, others through related projects or a clear and credible willingness to develop them.

  • Around three to eight years of relevant experience in IoT systems integration, building automation, smart buildings, or industrial sensor deployment
  • A hands-on approach as a systems integrator, comfortable selecting and configuring off-the-shelf hardware, wiring gateways, and troubleshooting in the field (designing circuit boards or writing firmware from scratch is not required)
  • A working knowledge of building protocols, including Modbus, BACnet, and at least one wireless protocol such as LoRaWAN, Zigbee, or cellular IoT
  • Practical experience integrating sensors or gateways with commercial Building Management Systems, with an understanding of where the friction tends to lie
  • The ability to run a rollout end to end, from site survey through to commissioned data, without daily oversight
  • Confidence building networks and partnerships from scratch, including qualifying vendors and agreeing technical scopes as you go
  • Full professional fluency in German and English, both written and spoken, as you will work directly with German installers, property managers, and retailers
  • A Berlin base, or a willingness to relocate, as this is a hybrid role with regular office time
Desirable Background
  • Experience in commercial real estate, retail, or grocery, particularly with refrigeration, HVAC, or sub-metering
  • Familiarity with EU energy and ESG regulation, such as CSRD, SFDR, EPBD, and the EU Taxonomy, and how data flows into compliance reporting
  • A track record of writing technical documentation that a third party can act on
  • Prior experience in an early-stage environment, having built something within a small team before
What We Offer
  • The autonomy and impact of being an early hire — shaping the function, defining the playbook, and in time building a team — without the existential risk of a typical seed-stage startup, given our position within the established Greenman Group
  • Work on a mission that matters, translating directly into measurable reductions in energy use, cost, and carbon for real grocery retailers and the real estate that serves them
  • The opportunity to define the hardware kit, installation standards, supplier roster, and integration playbook from the outset
  • A live, operating portfolio and paying customers to deploy on from the first day
  • Real scope for professional growth as the team scales from a handful of people towards around twenty across 2026 to 2028
  • A hybrid working arrangement based in Berlin, with travel built into the nature of the role
How to Apply

Interested candidates are invited to send a short note explaining what interests you about the role, together with a CV or LinkedIn profile, to careers@edyfi.com. There is no need for a cover letter; we would rather see one or two specific projects you have shipped.

The process from there is straightforward: an initial conversation with the CEO or CIO (around 30 minutes), a technical deep-dive with the CIO & CEO (60 to 90 minutes) discussing real deployment scenarios from the Greenman portfolio, an on-site visit in Berlin to meet the team and walk through a sample property, and finally reference calls and an offer.

edyfi is an equal opportunity employer. We hire on the basis of capability and fit, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
